Hello, IT Leads!

In the continued spirit of sharing, I thought I’d post about these interesting statistics. I am missing our IT Leads Conference this year, where I can share things like this and much more with you…so read on for some interesting info you may not already be aware of but should know as a 21st century educator.

Below are some interesting statistics about four Web 2.0 applications (3 of them are strictly “social networking” in nature). If you’re thinking that tomorrow’s learners aren’t online and exploring their cyber world, you’d be wrong.
J Personally, I think that Oprah’s recent move to utilize Twitter to update her fans and friends about her goingson is a huge boost for the application. Here’s some info on Twitter, if you’re not already familiar with it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twitter Heck, everyone can practically be “followed” via Twitter. Even Kirstie Alley is planning on Twittering how she plans to lose weight (again, this time w/o Jenny Craig). J

Recently, I’ve had many friends and colleagues contact me to join my Facebook page (which by the way, I seldom if ever visit…except for recently when I had to break the news to many foreigners that I was not the “Diana Sawyers” they’d traveled the world with and wanted to keep in touch with--I was probably more disappointed to deliver the news than they were to receive it. Hee hee). A good reason to keep a low public profile these days on social networking sites, is that future employers or other people can find out personal information about you by simply reading your exchanges with your friends—word to the wise, if you have either a Facebook or MySpace account, clean it up b/c you never know who’s reading. Certainly, tidy up or delete any personal photos you don't want others to see. Although it's "not as cool" to simply email your friends your pics and hellos, it is "safer".
